Rolling east on NY Route 293 through West Point, on Fred Steinberg's Old Indian Ride from The Boathouse in Central Park to Poughkeepsie. A double paceline two-thirds of the way into the ride on a golden day in Autumn, just after a climb up Mine Road. By this time into the ride, everyone was riding on instinct. Our minds were deep in personal thought. You can't buy stuff like this.

On the Manhattan abutment of the GW Bridge, returning to Manhattan from a ride to Nyack. We call this "stealing the day." This was the kind of day where anyone who saw you on the road was thinking: "these people are off their gourd." Actually, any suffering we experienced was overridden by the success of seizing the day. From left: Ian Hughes, John Zenkus, Timothy McCarthy.

One of Fred Steinberg's Gunk rides. A break at the Minnewaska Deli, Routes 44/55 & 299. Somewhere between having climbed a lot and a lot more climbing to come. Ain't life great?
